ANNOUNCEMENTS ARCHIVE

Winter 2006

----------------

Wednesday March 22

Hi All.

As always, I hope this finds you well. Last week we started creating
character profiles for our rainforest animals. This week, you will think
about some of the fundamental elements of storytelling as you write
improvise or enact a story involving yourself as animal. Refer
to the Vocabulary Sheet in your folders and carefully read the definitions
for narrative, medium, character, mood, location, sequence as
understanding these elements will help you in the process of creating
your own stories.

Answering the following questions will help you brainstorm for story ideas.
1. Where does your animal live in? Locate country and rainforest layer.
2. Does it come out during the day or at night? Why?
3. What does your animal like to eat? How does it get it?
4. Which animals like to eat your animal? (Who are its enemies?)
5. How does your animal protect itself?
6. Describe how your animal looks.
7. What makes your animal special? Write something you have learned about your animal that makes it unique.
8. Describe how your animal is in danger from people.

Use the resources to find relevant background information on your animal
or the rainforest. Don't be shy to look up anything you do not know or
understand on Google, Wikipedia, or the Dictionary.

As your stories develop, we'll post different images and words on the blog.

Tuesday March 14

Hi All.

Hope this finds you well. Last week we watched a chapter from
Baraka which is a sufi word meaning the breath or essence of life.
What words do the images and sounds from the film evoke in you?
How is our rainforest theme related to the messages you interpret
from these clips? What scenes from your part of the world would
you include in this motion picture? Reflect individually and discuss
as a group to come up with words, sounds and live images describing
the impact of man upon the environment. As you go through the resources,
you need not be shy to look up any information you do not know or
understand right away (Google. Wikipedia. Dictionary.)

Don't forget to read the introduction and do your creative exercises below.
Oh yeah, and drop a link or poem for the blog sometime :) ->

Cool links of the day:
* audio clip by Saul Williams.
* images from Baraka
* FAQ on Climate Change.

See you Thursday.
